In a great move to ensure good leadership, and in keeping with his declaration of drugs as a national health emergency in the country, the President of the Republic of Liberia HE Joseph Nyuma Boakai and his Vice President Jeremiah K. Koung on Wednesday February 7, 2024 participated in the Drugs test exercise at the Executive Mansion on capitol Hill, receiving a negative result, according to medical professionals.
During his first State of the Nation Address on Monday, January 29, 2024at the joint legislature Capitol Hill, President Boakai declared drugs as a national health emergency and called on every citizen to join him in the fight.
The president’s negative test result came after testing his urine specimen by doctors from a private clinic called the “Wellness Partners Clinic” in Liberia.
Dr. Nicole Cooperis the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Wellness Partners Clinic based in Liberia, pronounced the test results of both President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung whose tests proved negative.
The leader of the oldest African country, Boakai urged all citizens to undergo drug testing, and that he will lead the way.
According to President Joseph Boakai, his decision to personally take the drug test underscores the seriousness, with which the government is willing to combat drug related issues, and set a precedent for transparency and leadership.
President Boakai noted, a moment after his test, that the fight against drug abuse is far from over, and his actions serve as a reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and cooperation at all levels of society.
As Liberia continues to confront the challenges posed by drug addiction, the President’s commitment to addressing the issue remains unwavering.
This development comes as the nation grapples with a prevalent drug epidemic, prompting the president to lead by example in the fight against substance abuse in the country.
