The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education Mr. Conrad Sackey has assured the public that the result of the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be released by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) by the end of September 2023.
Minister Sackey made this disclosure on Tuesday 12th September during the Weekly Government Press Conference held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Freetown.
“I have engaged WAEC with regards the releasing of the WASSCE and BECE Results, for WASSCE, I was told it will be released by the end of this week or to mid-next week. For the BECE result, we are anticipating it by the end of this month,” he said.
Minister Sackey underscored the fact that timely release of public examination results has been a mantra for the MBSSE since they started the implementation of the Free and Quality School Examination (FQSE), noting that when the results are released early, it reduced the period the children stay at home and this has prevented drop out as a result of teenage pregnancy.
Wednesday 2nd August 2023 saw the completion of the BECE, which was the last public examination to be conducted.
The 2023 BECE that started on Monday 24th July saw a total of 130,857 candidates registering for the examination with 67,107 (51.28%) are girls and 63,750 (48.72%) are boys.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) comes at the end of formal basic education in Sierra Leone. It is administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The WASSCE was taken in May and June this year. WASSCE for school candidates (May/June) is the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). It is taken by final year students in senior secondary schools.
