The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has donated four motorbikes to its Northeast Region as part of efforts to strengthen police mobility, improve rapid response and enhance security operations in hard-to-reach communities.
The motorbikes were formally handed over at the Regional Police Headquarters in Mena Hills, Makeni, where the donation was described as an important boost to the operational capacity of police officers serving communities across the region.
The provision of the motorbikes is expected to make it easier for police personnel to access remote and difficult-to-reach areas, particularly communities where conventional vehicles may face challenges due to road conditions and limited accessibility.
The support is also intended to enhance routine patrols, emergency response and other public safety operations, enabling officers to respond more effectively to security concerns and incidents within their areas of responsibility.
Receiving the motorbikes on behalf of the Northeast Region, Regional Police Commander, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Esther Mary Kaintor-Dukuray, expressed profound appreciation to Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu for his continued support to the region.
AIG Dukuray described the donation as “timely, strategic and a morale booster” for officers working on the ground.
She said the new motorbikes would significantly strengthen the region’s ability to conduct patrols, respond to emergencies and maintain public safety, particularly in areas that are difficult to access.
The Regional Police Commander assured the Police Leadership that the motorbikes would be carefully managed and used strictly for operational purposes.
“On behalf of the officers and men of the Northeast Region, I pledge that these motorbikes will be judiciously managed and deployed solely for operational demands. This support will undoubtedly strengthen our capacity to serve and protect the people,” AIG Dukuray stated.
The donation comes at a time when effective mobility remains a critical component of policing, especially in rural and hard-to-reach communities. Reliable transportation enables law enforcement personnel to maintain a visible presence, respond promptly to incidents and engage more effectively with residents.
The four motorbikes are therefore expected to contribute to improved police visibility and accessibility across the Northeast Region, while supporting ongoing efforts by the Sierra Leone Police to strengthen community safety and security.
The SLP has continued to emphasise the importance of providing officers with the necessary logistical and operational resources to enable them to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order.
