The Sierra Leone Police Hospital has received a major boost to its healthcare capacity following a strategic partnership with the Saving Lives Initiative, a U.S.-based non-profit organisation working to strengthen medical services in Sierra Leone.
The organisation on Friday donated medical equipment worth thousands of dollars to the Police Hospital, further strengthening its ongoing collaboration with the hospital and other healthcare facilities across the country.
Head of the Saving Lives Initiative, Mr Abdullah Malik Jalloh Jamboria, said the donation forms part of the organisation’s broader commitment to supporting sustainable healthcare delivery in Sierra Leone.
“We are not only donating equipment but also building partnerships that strengthen hospitals and empower medical staff through training and missions,” he said.
Jalloh Jamboria commended doctors and nurses at the Police Hospital for their commitment to professional development, noting that their participation in training programmes has contributed significantly to the success of the partnership.
The donated items include oxygen concentrators, patient monitors, surgical masks, gloves, syringes and computers. The equipment is expected to enhance surgical operations, routine medical procedures and the hospital’s overall service delivery.
He also disclosed that some of the donated equipment would be distributed to other hospitals across Sierra Leone to ensure that essential medical resources reach more healthcare facilities.
Representing the Inspector General of Police, ASP Dr John M. Konteh, Deputy Director and Medical Superintendent of the Police Hospital, expressed appreciation for the continued support from the Saving Lives Initiative
“This partnership is helping us deliver better healthcare to our patients. We will ensure the donated equipment is properly utilised to improve services,” Dr Konteh assured.
He stressed that the partnership goes beyond the provision of medical equipment, describing it as an important step towards strengthening Sierra Leone’s healthcare system through capacity building, training and improved access to essential medical resources.
