The Sierra Leone Police (SLP), through its Corporate Affairs Directorate, has commenced a two-day Strategic Action Planning Workshop for Local Unit Commanders (LUCs) and Heads of Departments aimed at strengthening the implementation of the institution’s 2026 Strategic Action Plan.
The workshop, being held from 23 to 24 July 2026 at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, Freetown, has brought together senior police officers from across the country to review priorities, enhance operational planning, and reinforce strategies for improved policing and public service delivery.
Delivering the keynote address, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, underscored the critical role of strategic planning in building a modern, professional, and responsive police service capable of addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.
He said effective planning remains central to improving operational efficiency, strengthening service delivery, and ensuring that policing strategies remain aligned with national security priorities.
The IGP called on participants to approach the workshop with commitment, professionalism, and accountability, stressing that the success of the 2026 Strategic Action Plan would depend on the quality and practicality of the action plans developed during the sessions.
He urged Local Unit Commanders to formulate measurable, results-oriented strategies that respond to the realities within their respective Areas of Responsibility (AORs), while remaining consistent with the overall vision of the Sierra Leone Police.
According to IGP Sellu, innovation, teamwork, discipline, and prudent resource management are essential pillars for achieving the objectives of the Strategic Action Plan. He noted that collaboration among commanders and departments would be vital in delivering effective policing services and maintaining public trust.
As part of efforts to strengthen security nationwide, the Police Chief directed Local Unit Commanders to intensify patrols across their operational areas to enhance crime prevention, maintain law and order, and increase police visibility within communities.
He also encouraged officers to foster unity, mutual respect, and stronger collaboration among personnel, describing these values as indispensable to building a more efficient and service-oriented police institution.
Concluding his address, IGP Sellu urged participants to actively contribute throughout the workshop and take ownership of the strategic planning process. He emphasised that effective implementation of the 2026 Strategic Action Plan would not only improve institutional performance but also reinforce public confidence in the Sierra Leone Police.
The two-day workshop forms part of the Sierra Leone Police’s broader commitment to institutional reform, improved accountability, and the delivery of professional policing services that meet the expectations of citizens while effectively responding to emerging security threats across the country.
