Residents of Dogoloya Town in Falaba District have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating condition of the bridge linking their community to Sinkunia, warning that the structure has become increasingly unsafe and poses a serious risk to lives and livelihoods.

The bridge serves as a vital transportation link for thousands of residents, including traders, schoolchildren, farmers, motorists and travelers who depend on it daily to access markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services. However, community members say its worsening condition is making movement increasingly difficult and dangerous.

According to residents, the bridge has suffered significant deterioration over time, raising fears that it could fail if urgent rehabilitation works are not undertaken. They noted that the situation is particularly alarming during the rainy season, when heavy rainfall, flooding and slippery road conditions increase the danger for pedestrians and motorists.

“We use this bridge every day, but we are now afraid to cross it because it is no longer in a safe condition,” one resident said. “If nothing is done soon, we fear it could collapse and lead to serious injuries or even loss of life.”

Local traders also expressed concern that the poor condition of the bridge is disrupting the movement of goods and affecting business activities. Farmers transporting agricultural produce to nearby markets say delays and transportation challenges are reducing their incomes and increasing the cost of doing business.

Parents and community leaders have also voiced concern about the safety of schoolchildren who cross the bridge each day to attend classes, stressing that protecting lives should be a priority for the relevant authorities.

Residents are now appealing to stakeholders in Falaba District, including the District Council, local authorities and Pavifort Construction Company, to urgently inspect the bridge and implement the necessary rehabilitation or replacement works before the situation deteriorates further.

They emphasized that investing in durable road infrastructure would not only improve public safety but also strengthen economic growth, facilitate access to essential services and enhance connectivity between communities.

Community members further noted that reliable infrastructure remains critical to the district’s development and called on the Government and development partners to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Dogoloya Town bridge as part of broader efforts to improve rural transportation networks.

As concerns continue to mount, residents say they hope swift action will be taken to prevent a potential tragedy and restore confidence among the many people who rely on the bridge every day. They maintain that timely intervention will safeguard lives, support local commerce and ensure uninterrupted movement between Dogoloya Town, Sinkunia and neighboring communities.
