An organization committed to advancing human rights, promote community development, and strengthening active citizen participation at the grassroots level has been launched in Mambolo Town, Kambia District.

The Grassroots Advocacy for Human Rights and Development-Sierra Leone will serve as a grassroots-driven approach to human rights and development in Kambia District and beyond.

GAHRD-SL was co-founded by Mr. Ibrahim Momoh Turay, alongside a dedicated team of young people who have translated years of community service into a structured platform for sustainable change.

Speaking at the official launch, Regional Coordinator for Anti-Bullying Initiative Worldwide – Sierra Leone Chapter, Alhaji Eric Mohammed Kamara hailed the launch as a significant and timely milestone for current and future generations in Mambolo Chiefdom.

He said the organization can generate far-reaching benefits, and therefore called for accountability, trustworthiness, and steadfast dedication among the GAHRD-SL’s leadership.

Mr. Kamara stressed the necessity of an integrated approach and unity among communities, so that local people can actively participate as true stakeholders.

Also, General Manager of Rowollon Lion Agricultural Foundation, Mohamed L. Bangura lauded the launch as the strengthening of a movement rooted in people’s empowerment, human dignity, and grassroots development. He emphasised that true development begins with access to land, food security, economic empowerment, and the protection of fundamental rights. He pledged his foundation’s readiness to collaborate, support, and contribute to the success of GAHRD-SL, calling on all stakeholders to move beyond words and invest in grassroots solutions.

In his keynote address, Paramount Chief of Mambolo Chiefdom, Bai Shebora Lion described the founding of GAHRD-SL as a proud achievement for the entire chiefdom because it was conceived, established, and led by indigenes committed to serving their own communities. While reaffirming his unwavering commitment to supporting its work, the Paramount Chief highlighted the critical importance of education, respect for human rights, healthcare access, and protection of vulnerable people.

He called for stronger collaboration among all stakeholders to promote justice, peace, and sustainable development within the chiefdom.
