The Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) has opened a two‑week seminar in Beijing, China, where 35 staff members are undergoing intensive training on corruption prevention, investigation, and monitoring strategies. The programme runs from June 23 to July 6, 2026, and focuses on practical approaches to identifying and tackling corrupt practices.
Deputy Commissioner Augustine Foday Ngobie addressed the opening ceremony, describing the training as a timely opportunity to strengthen the Commission’s capacity. He explained that global best practices and modern technology are essential tools in Sierra Leone’s fight against corruption. “We must continue to build knowledge and skills that allow us to confront corruption with stronger systems and sharper strategies,” he said.
Ngobie highlighted reforms introduced since 2018, including compulsory asset declaration, tougher legal sanctions, prosecution in absentia, and the rollout of the National Anti‑Corruption Strategy (2024–2028). He noted that these measures have already reshaped the country’s anti‑corruption landscape but require continuous reinforcement through training and international cooperation.
Chinese officials praised Sierra Leone’s commitment to integrity and accountability. They reaffirmed support for ongoing collaboration, stressing that shared experiences can strengthen governance and improve transparency.
The seminar, sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, provides participants with practical knowledge on investigative techniques, evidence collection, supervisory mechanisms, and the design of effective anti‑corruption systems.
The training marks another step in Sierra Leone’s efforts to deepen institutional capacity and ensure that the fight against corruption remains proactive, technology‑driven, and globally informed.
