Bonthe island, a challenging place to go especially when the rains have started falling. And worse still for persons living with disabilities. We all know how the island is cut off from mainland Sierra Leone therefore life of disables is very challenging there. A local NGO, Mobility Sierra Leone, based in Bo, that handles especially assistive devices for movement of disables, reached out to persons with disabilities on the island. The devices supplied which included tricycles and clutches were provided by Mobility World Wide and with support from Latter Days Saints the assistive devices were transported to the island. Lead by Mr. Lamin Mansaray the team visited the island on the 20th. May 2026 to present the assistive devices.
Twelve tricycles and five pairs of clutches were presented to the disables on the island. The mayor of Bonthe Municipal Council, Mr. Robinson in his response to the gesture told the gathering that ” ….the devices are going to make differences in the lives of disables on the island.” He thanked Mobility Sierra Leone for listening to the cries of persons with disability in his municipality. A beneficiary, Kong Filli who received the tricycle said that he is ” very happy to have received a free gift so important.” An appeal was made by a blind man so they are also factored into the plans of Mobility Sierra Leone and Mobility Worldwide
