

The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Segepoh Solomon Thomas, has on Tuesday 5th May 2026 expressed gratitude for the resumption of duty by Opposition Members of Parliament.
The Rt. Hon. Speaker said he felt extremely proud of the Opposition for resuming their seats, noting that they were elected by their people and that they have a national duty to serve. He also told Opposition MPs that nothing should stop them from representing their constituents. He further urged them to use their voices in the Well of Parliament to address the concerns of their people. “Please use the Well of Parliament as an open space to advocate for your people,” he said.
Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, lavished praises on Rt. Hon. Speaker, Segepoh Solomon Thomas for the role he played in facilitating their return to Parliament. Hon. Kargbo recalled that the Rt. Hon. Speaker held several meetings with them in his office, appealing to them to return to Parliament. He added that the Rt. Hon. Speaker also facilitated a meeting with the President, all in the interest of resolving the political impasse.
“So as the Opposition, we want to express our thanks and appreciation for the role you played, Mr. Speaker. We also thank you for serving as the conduit that enabled us to meet with the President. You facilitated a meeting that was very productive. You have shown exemplary leadership for which we will remain grateful,” he said.
The Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, urged that the Communiqué signed leading to their return to Parliament be honored. This includes the laying of the Agreement for National Unity in Parliament and the establishment of a Committee to exercise oversight of the Elections Management Body.
The Rt. Hon. Speaker, Segepoh Solomon Thomas took note of the concerns raised by the Opposition Leader regarding the laying of the Agreement for National Unity and the establishment of the Oversight Committee to oversee the operations of the Elections Management Body. The Rt. Hon. Speaker noted that the Leaders of Government Business are currently on official functions at various international parliaments. He therefore assured that necessary actions would be taken as soon as the leadership of the ruling SLPP returns to Parliament from their official duties.
