Sierra Leone’s Minister of Health, Austin Demby, PhD, MPH, participated in the high-level launch of the Regional Health, Nutrition and Population (HNP) Strategy for Western and Central Africa. Dr. Demby, who was in the Ghanian capital-Accra as a special guest to the President of Ghana and the World Bank Vice President for People, addressed other leaders on the World Bank-led initiative that presents a country-driven roadmap across 22 countries, positioning health not only as a social priority but as a powerful engine for job creation, productivity, and economic growth.
As a special guest, Minister Demby participated in very high-level discussions where he highlighted the rapid transformation taking place in the health sector and reinforcing Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening health systems, investing in human capital, and advancing regional collaboration.
The launch marks a significant milestone in aligning health investments with broader economic transformation across Western and Central Africa, with countries expected to translate the strategy into actionable national priorities in the months ahead.
