The Local Unit Commander of the Bo East Division, Ishmael Koroma, has met with residents of Boama Chiefdom as part of efforts to strengthen community policing and enhance public safety.

The engagement brought together local stakeholders to discuss security concerns and reinforce collaboration between the police and the community in maintaining peace and order.

Commander Koroma commended residents for sustaining calm in areas such as Gerehun but warned against complacency, urging continued vigilance in the face of emerging security challenges.

He raised concerns over the activities of commercial motorbike riders, commonly known as okada, noting that while many operate legitimately, others may be associated with criminal behaviour. He encouraged residents to promptly report any suspicious movements to the police.

The meeting also addressed the growing problem of substance abuse, particularly involving drugs such as tramadol and kush. Koroma outlined the legal consequences of drug-related offences and highlighted the serious health risks linked to their misuse.

In response, community members proposed the establishment of a temporary police post within the chiefdom to improve response time to incidents and strengthen the security presence.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Sierra Leone Police to promote community-based policing and build trust with local communities in addressing security concerns.

Residents welcomed the initiative and expressed their willingness to support law enforcement in sustaining peace and stability across the chiefdom.
