The Government of Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening international partnerships following a high-level diplomatic engagement with Egypt, signaling renewed momentum in bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Speaking during the engagement, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Francess Piagie Alghali, emphasized that the discussions were aimed at advancing dialogue on shared priorities and identifying practical steps to strengthen the long-standing relationship between the two nations. Her remarks underscored Sierra Leone’s broader foreign policy objective of fostering strategic alliances that drive national development.
On the Egyptian side, Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs, Ambassador Mohamed Abu Bakr Saleh Fattah, highlighted his country’s growing focus on collaboration with African states. He noted that Egypt is actively expanding its engagement through summits, training initiatives, and diplomatic partnerships. Key sectors identified for cooperation include energy, healthcare, technology, infrastructure, agriculture, fisheries, and defence, areas critical to Africa’s sustainable development.
A major highlight of the discussions was the upcoming African Union Mid-Year Summit and its concurrent business summit, scheduled to take place in Al Alamin, Egypt. The event is expected to bring together African heads of state, private sector leaders, and financial institutions to deliberate on pressing continental issues and unlock investment opportunities.
According to Ambassador Fattah, the summit represents more than just a diplomatic gathering,it is a strategic platform designed to facilitate deal-making and promote economic cooperation across Africa. Particular emphasis is being placed on ensuring strong participation from the private sector, recognizing its vital role in driving innovation, investment, and job creation.
The agenda for the summit is broad and ambitious, covering sectors such as energy, health, mineral resources, information technology, and infrastructure. These focus areas align closely with Africa’s development priorities and reflect a growing recognition that sustainable progress will require coordinated efforts between governments and private stakeholders.
For Sierra Leone, participation in such high-level engagements presents an opportunity to attract investment, strengthen international partnerships, and position itself as an active player in continental development initiatives. It also reinforces the country’s commitment to engaging constructively w 11 – ithin the framework of the African Union.
