For the past week, our highlight is the progress report received at State House by His Excellency, President Julius Maada Bio from members of the Presidential Council for Delivering Feed Salone . As Chairman of the Presidential Council for Feed Salone, on Thursday 12th chaired a key meeting where he reviewed the progress and impact of the Feed Salone Initiative. President Bio’s Year of Action also focuses on his flagship interventions as a national resilience strategy. Currently, food imports has already declined due to progress made over the past three years. With that, this week brings to you other developmental strides from Friday 6th March to Friday 13th March 2026.
Future Perspectives, in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone – Ministry of Information and Civic Education will host the West Africa Youth Symposium on Friday 13th a high-level gathering designed to engage young leaders in shaping Africa’s future economy. The symposium will feature H.E. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Former Vice President of Nigeria, who will engage directly with young leaders from across sectors.
The Global Partnership for Education (GPE), announced Hiis Excellency President Julius Maada Bio as a GPE Champion for Sustainable Financing for Education. Through his role as a GPE Champion, President Bio will help mobilize political leadership and international momentum to expand sustainable education financing and accelerate progress toward quality education for every child. Working alongside global leaders, youth advocates, and development partners, he will support the call for stronger national investment and global cooperation to transform education systems and ensure that no child is left behind.
The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority has taken Vehicle Licence enforcement to the mining areas to ensure all vehicles operating within the mining area comply with transport regulations. Trucks and other vehicles were checked to verify valid licenses, registration documents and road worthiness. Drivers without valid Drivers License used the SLRSA Mobile License Vehicle facility to get their License. The exercise aims to promote safety, accountability and proper regulation of vehicles involved in mining activities.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development after its mission review plans to inject an additional $12million into Sierra Leone’s flagship rural finance programme aimed at expanding credit access for farmers, women and youth under the Rural Finance and Community Improvement Project Phase II that will run till 2027. Improved access to finance is central to the government’s “Feed Salone” initiative aimed at boosting domestic food production.
The Women and Youth Technical Capacity for the Blue Economy programme, delivered through a partnership between the DOTCAN Institute, GOAL Sierra Leone and international collaborators, brought together participants from Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Canada in a cross-continental skills initiative targeting sustainable use of ocean and coastal resources where 18 young Sierra Leoneans completed a three-month intensive training programme designed to build technical capacity in the blue economy sector.
At the 52nd Government Council Meeting and High-Level Symposium of the African Regional Labour Administration Centre held at Lagoonda Hotel in Freetown, the Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Jalloh highlighted the importance of inclusive employment opportunities, social protection systems, and modern labour regulations that can adapt to technological changes. Hosted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, the high-level gathering brought together government officials, labour experts, and policy stakeholders that discussed the theme “Advancing Decent Work in the Platform Economy.
Government is delivering on a major road infrastructure linking the south and the north of Sierra Leone. The road will boost agricultural trade was handed over to the contractor. The Bo-Yele – Matotoka Road Rehabilitation covers 90KM stretch which includes rehabilitation, regravelling and construction of culverts.
