The Sierra Leone Road Safety Corps (SLRSC), in collaboration with the Kambia Division Traffic Unit, has engaged transport operators in Kambia District on the full operation of the newly installed electronic vehicle and motorbike licensing machine.
The engagement, held at the SLRSA headquarters in Kambia, formed part of an awareness-raising campaign aimed at encouraging drivers and motorbike riders to regularize their vehicle, motorbike, and body licenses, and to comply with traffic rules and road safety regulations.
Addressing the gathering, the District Traffic Officer (DTO) of Kambia Police Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr Brima Ansumana Vandy, urged transport operators to take advantage of the new licensing machine by registering and licensing all unregistered vehicles and motorbikes to avoid traffic-related offences.
He warned strongly against overloading, reckless driving and riding, speeding, the use of unlicensed vehicles and motorbikes, and the practice of carrying goods and passengers simultaneously.
Similarly, the Officer Commanding Traffic at Bamoi Luma Police Station, Assistant Superintendent of Police Tenneh Y. Kamara, cautioned transport operators to respect traffic laws and utilize the electronic licensing system as an opportunity to maintain proper documentation for their vehicles and motorbikes.
The Head of Station of SLRSA Kambia, Superintendent Mr Mansaray, encouraged transport operators to work closely with the police and make effective use of the licensing machine. He emphasized that with the machine now fully operational in the district, drivers and riders must comply strictly with the licensing process to avoid penalties and other traffic-related offences.
Representatives of motorbike riders and drivers expressed appreciation to the SLRSA and the Kambia District Traffic Unit for bringing the electronic licensing service closer to them, describing it as a timely intervention that will ease the licensing process and improve road safety in the district.
