
As the new Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) and first ever female to occupy the post, Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi has continued her nationwide visitation and site inspections. Joined by the Board Chairman Joseph Ndanema and PC Amy (SALWACO Board Member), the tour which continued on Monday November 24th, 2025 commenced in Mile 91, Tonkolili District before heading to Moyamba and Bonthe Island.
In Mile 91, SALWACO’s Station Manager, Ing. Osman Pele Bangura welcomed the team and congratulated MD Jabbi on her appointment. He spoke on strides that have been made to make SALWACO more efficient, but equally touched on some of the challenges.
Community representatives welcomed and congratulated the new MD and called on the SALWACO management for improved services in providing water for people.
Board Chairman of SALWACO, Joseph Ndanema said that the new vision of SALWACO is to see that the concerns of people are addressed. He assured all present that he would cascade all concerns to the Board and Management and to see that matters are adequately addressed.
Managing Director of SALWACO, Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi thanked attendees for the concerns and promised to work with the SALWACO management in making sure that the institution is able to fully deliver on its mandate and to become financially viable. She used the opportunity to appreciate customers on their willingness to pay for water rates, while assuring that situations would be improved for the better.
In Moyamba, Ing. Yankuba Tarawally as Director of Project Management of SALWACO gave a succinct background on the status of the project, noting that the project now stands at 70 percent completion. He said that in no time, the project will reach its conclusion, making another era of improved water provision in Moyamba. Station/Project Manager, Ing. Bayoh also commented on progress made and assured of a successful completion.
In Bonthe, SALWACO’s Director of Operations, Ing. Abdul Ben Lebbie and Ing. Yankuba Tarawally as Director of Project Management briefed MD Jabbi on the status of the project while touching on essential mechanisms needed to ensure that the project is successfully completed. Station Manager, Mr. Johnny and the Station Team also gave a brief report on the status and operations.
The nationwide visitation and site inspection of Ing. Tiideni Hawa Jabbi is aimed at fully understanding Station operations at all levels and to see how the SALWACO management could intervene in making sure that the institution continues to perform its role to provide water for people while ensuing financial viability.
The tour is expected to continue in Pujehun, Bo and Kenema in the coming days before the team returns to the SALWACO Headquarter at Tower Hill in Freetown.
