In a bold step towards enhancing road safety and promoting efficient service delivery, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) through the Ministry of Transport and Aviation has today launched a Mobile Station operations for Vehicle License service and a first aid kits. The initiative aims to bring licensing services closer to citizens, especially those in remote areas, by decentralizing vehicle registration across the country.

In his remarks, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Rex Bhonapha on behalf of the Ministry, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring road safety and improving service delivery. He urged all vehicle owners to take full advantage of the mobile services and prove their compliance with traffic regulations.

“The safety of our people is paramount,” he stated. “We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote accountability, order, and protection on our roads.”

The Executive Director (ED) of SLRSA, James Bio explained that the launch of the mobile vehicle registration service forms a key part of his 100-day action plan.

He maintained that the initiative was developed in response to the challenges many citizens face in accessing traditional vehicle licensing services.

“This mobile licensing program ensures that no vehicle owner is left behind. We are decentralizing and bringing services to the doorsteps of our people,” ED Bio stated.

He further revealed that the SLRSA has deployed road safety teams to strategic locations, including Mile 91 , Makeni and Jui to carry out essential services and enforce safety protocols, he added that, the Authority has also introduced First Aid Kits, which are now a required part of every vehicle’s safety equipment.

He expressed thanks and appreciation to the leadership of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation for its continued support and collaboration.

The Director of Road Safety, Kai Tongay emphasized that SLRSA teams would visit every vehicle park within Freetown to conduct on-site vehicle registrations. He called on all vehicle owners and drivers to utilize the new service and ensure that their vehicles are properly licensed, stating, “There is no longer any excuse for having expired vehicle licenses.”

Representatives from various transport unions praised the Authority for the initiative. The Vice President of the Motor Drivers Union expressed deep appreciation and pledged the Union’s full support. Similarly, the Bike Riders Union extended gratitude to the Ministry, Executive Director and his team, commending their efforts to improve access to essential services.

As part of the service’s rollout, ED Bio announced plans to introduce a Mobile Driver’s License, ensuring that obtaining a driver’s license becomes a basic and accessible necessity for all citizens. He also confirmed that the driver’s license service will be decentralized across the country within the next 15 days.

Supporting the digital transformation of public services, the mobile licensing process is now integrated with Wangov, a single government service portal that provides easy access for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to connect and serve citizens more effectively. Wangov facilitates secure payments, data sharing, and real-time updates across government systems. Vehicle license payments can now also be made through E-money, further simplifying the process.

This initiative marks a major stride towards enhancing road safety, accessibility, and efficiency in service delivery.
