A ceremony at the senior officers Mess, Kingtom Police Barracks, marked the handover of 30 customized traffic patrol motorbikes to the Directorate of Traffic Management and Road Safety. Minister of Internal Affairs, on Thursday, June 24, 2025, Retired AIG Morie Lengor, hailed the initiative as a commendable endeavour, reflecting efficient use of government funds allocated to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).
Minister Lengor praised the SLP’s evolution into a service-oriented force, responsive to public needs like curbing road lawlessness, indiscipline, and accidents, for IGP Sellu and his team to restore order in traffic management is a laudable venture, he said. However, he referenced a recent IGR perception survey labelling the police as the most corrupt institution, urging officers to address this perception urgently, it’s what people think; trust, a cornerstone of your strategic plan, demands a corruption-free force, Lengor stressed, calling for introspection to align actions with the SLP’s vision. He also announced the restored 900 toll line for public use.
IGP William Fayia Sellu revealed the bikes were procured with government funds, set for nationwide deployment with a focus on Freetown, he vowed to end impunity at traffic lights and stop signals, insisting on judicious use and prohibiting civilian attire during operations.
