I am happy to bring you the May-June, 2025 edition of Expo Magazine which is a mix-bag of features, opinions, interviews reflecting burning political, human rights, health, development, and socio-economic issues in the country. As always, this edition carries articles that are based on truth, professionalism, compassion, and accountability offering a sweeping and courageous look into the lives, struggles, and hopes of Sierra Leoneans. From courtrooms and clinics to farms and mining pits, each narrative captures the heartbeat of a nation navigating both crisis and transformation.
This edition opens with the dramatic unveiling of Hon. Justice Komba Kamanda as the youngest Chief Justice in the history of the judiciary in Sierra Loene. With over 20 years of professional practice in the justice sector as a magistrate, judge, and trainer, and graduate qualifications at home and abroad, Hon Justice Komba Kamanda has since his appointment about 200 days ago literally embarked on a journey of transformation of the judiciary. It is really not easy to fix the problems of the judiciary such as the delay in delivering justice, corrupt bailiff system, execution of court orders etc. But the good news is that we now have a great reformer at the helm of affairs in the judiciary and that it is just a matter of time for the transformations to be visible.. As the cover stories demonstrate, the judiciary very much seems to be on the right track. Coming on the heels of the first cover story is the Exclusive Interview with Hon Justice Komba Kamanda where he had the opportunity to speak directly to the issues that have been undermining his efforts to transform the judiciary and that would put the people first in providing access to justice in Sierra Leone.
The two cover stories were immediately supported by two other judicial related articles –the one featuring the landmark ruling delivered recently by Justice Adrian Fisher against a junior Lands Ministry official Mr Sendor; the ruling delivered justice to Ing Joseph Musa albeit after waiting for four years as he finally took full possession of all of his land at Goderich. The last justice sector story was based on a response by the judiciary to what they referred to as ‘malicious attacks’ by CHIRDI’s Executive Director Abdul Fatoma.
Other articles such as the one on the Mpox epidemic, the mining crisis with Koidu Holding at the centre, taxation, education, politics, etc in the rest of the magazine makes this edition a real blockbuster you would not want to miss. Happy reading as always!
