Patricia Kabia, a senior reporter and broadcast journalist at Rise Radio, is making waves in Sierra Leone’s media landscape with her powerful storytelling and unwavering commitment to public service journalism.
Freetown, Sierra Leone — With a firm voice and an unshakable dedication to social justice, Patricia Kabiaa has become a standout figure in Sierra Leone’s media industry. As a senior reporter and broadcaster at Rise Radio, Kabiaa is widely recognized for her impactful work in promoting accountability, public health, child rights, and civic education.
Kabiaa’s journalistic journey is rooted in community impact. Known for her versatility and empathy, she produces and presents key radio programs such as “Wellbody Hour,” a bi-monthly show focusing on health education, and “Pikin Corner,” a weekly children’s segment that promotes safety, education, and child rights.
“I believe journalism should be more than reporting — it should be a platform for the people,” said Kabiaa during an interview.
Currently in her final year studying Mass Communication at Fourah Bay College (FBC), she balances academic rigor with real-world media experience, positioning herself as a future leader in public-interest journalism.
Kabiaa’s dedication extends beyond the studio. She is a fellow at the Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG), where she covers transitional justice issues—an essential aspect of Sierra Leone’s post-conflict development.
Her credentials speak to a commitment to professional growth and specialized reporting. She has:
- Participated in the One Health workshop, reporting on zoonotic diseases and wildlife preservation;
- Earned a certificate in environmental reporting from Watch Your Environment;
- Received training in SGBV reporting and cybersecurity through WIMSAL;
- Been certified by the Media Initiative for Women and Girls Empowerment;
- And honored by Women Inspiring Women for her outstanding contributions to media and advocacy.
