The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, has lost his home in Freetown to a devastating fire on Tuesday, February 24, 2025. The incident, which resulted in the complete destruction of his property, was reportedly caused by electrical issues.
Speaking on the incident, Hon. Kargbo revealed that he had received an alarming call from his family in Freetown the night on Wednesday, informing him that his nephew’s phone had exploded while charging due to poor electricity current. The situation took a tragic turn while he was in Lungi when he received another distressing call that his house was engulfed in flames.
“All my properties were lost in the fire, but I thank God there was no life lost,” Hon. Kargbo stated.
The fire highlights the ongoing concerns over unstable electricity supply and its associated risks in Freetown, where power fluctuations often lead to electrical faults and domestic disasters.
Authorities are yet to provide a full report on the cause of the fire, but preliminary information suggests that faulty electrical wiring or power fluctuations may have played a role.
Community members have expressed their sympathies to the opposition leader, with calls for increased awareness and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As investigations continue, this incident serves as a reminder of the need for proper electrical safety measures in homes, especially in areas affected by irregular power supply.
