Dear Tech, I am putting it to you that we have a lot of ministries, departments and agencies that are creating room for absolute media poverty in Sierra Leone. Imagine owing media institutions millions of old Leones and in the case of the new notes, thousands? That is very much unwelcoming. It is high time institutions prioritized media and development. For ages, we have been taking about this, but maybe we also need a very serious media conversation around same? A positivist paradigm shift is needed and the time is now.
Hello Tech, I am reliably informed that either from Accountant-General or the Finance Ministry, some serious blunders were made in respect to the December 2024 salaries and allowances of some people. In fact, there were people that were never paid. You wonder what may have happened. For some; incomplete payments etc. We should not be talking about mistakes of this nature. We should have crossed such stages. It is hoped that these things would be sorted accordingly anytime soon!
At the University of Sierra Leone, the new students are yet to be orientated, but a number of continuing classes are almost ending the first semester. This is not too cool. USL must ensure uniformity and rigidity among other things. For us to be in such circumstances says so much about planning and strategic implementation at USL. A revisitation is needed. The new students deserve better. In fact, some of them are yet to get acceptance letters. This is very worrying. It has the proclivity to affect the USL calendar. Already, we were all very happy to have seen the graduation in December. Such efforts should be maintained and not otherwise.
The safe abortion bill is facing several issues. For me, if the mother faces complications, a safer abortion may be prudent, but in circumstances where the mother just decides to terminate even where no complication is detected, maybe we should discourage such arguments. In all of this, there have been several standpoints and postulations. Let us hope that all of this is settled and amicably.
