A heartbreaking accident occurred on December 15, 2024, at Rotifunk Junction in Lungi, claiming the life of a pregnant woman. The woman, whose identity remains unknown, was struck and fatally crushed by a tipper truck loaded with sand.

According to an eyewitness, Morlai Kamara, a motorbike rider, the truck ran over the woman, leaving a devastating scene. The collision was so severe that the woman’s body was gruesomely disfigured, with the force of the impact causing her unborn child and internal organs to be expelled.

The body was immediately transported to the Lungi Government Hospital, where medical staff confirmed the tragic loss of both the woman and her unborn child. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident and working to identify the victim.

Eyewitnesses and local residents expressed deep sorrow and anger over the incident, calling for urgent action to improve road safety at Rotifunk Junction, a notoriously busy area prone to accidents. Some residents highlighted the lack of traffic control measures and the reckless driving of heavy trucks as major concerns.

“This is one of the most horrifying accidents we have seen in this area,” Morlai Kamara lamented. “The authorities need to do something to prevent such tragedies.”

The community is urging drivers, especially those operating heavy vehicles, to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid similar tragedies. Additionally, local leaders are appealing to the government to implement safety measures, such as speed bumps and traffic wardens, in high-risk areas like Rotifunk Junction.
