MSC Meeting

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mrs Francess Piagie Aghali, and the Deputy Minister of Defence, Colonel (Rtd) Muana Brima Massaquoi, of the Republic of Sierra Leone, are currently attending the 53rd Ordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council at Ministerial Level in Abuja.

The Session, which commenced today, 11th December 2024, at the ECOWAS Commission, brought together Defense and Foreign Ministers, including experts from the member states.

The Mediation and Security Council Meeting discusses regional issues, including political stability and security, conflicts, the issue of the Republics of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso that have announced their exit from the region bloc and measures to counter terrorism and violent extremism in the region.

The meeting in Abuja serves as a platform for the ministers to share perspectives, negotiate agreements, and foster unity among the member states.

The outcomes of this Session will be documented in the final report that will outline decisions and actions for the 66th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State, scheduled for Sunday, 15th December 2024, also in Abuja.
