As part of actualizing its cooperate social responsibilities, the Leone Rock Metal Group has on Monday, November 4, 2024, donated one thousand (1,000) bags of cement to parliament of Sierra Leone to improve its infrastructure.

In his welcoming statement, the deputy clerk of Parliament, Gilbert Nhabay said that the cement is intended to support the House of Parliament with infrastructure.

Ansu Momoh, Director of Community Affairs, Leone Rock, stated that Parliament and his company have a positive cordial relationship especially members of Parliament from that of the country, saying the donation was part of their corporate social responsibility and it is aimed to strengthen the relationship with Parliament while expressing hope for more stronger relationship between Parliament and Leone Rock.

Leader of government business, Hon. Mathew Nyuma thanked the company for responding to the call and that they were not all relying on the government to do everything. He said the dinner was organized to raise funds to improve infrastructure in the House of Legislature. “I know you have been doing so many things for Sierra Leone”, he underscored while promising to support Leone Rock as long as it is done under the ambit of the Law

Hon. Daneil Koroma, deputy leader of opposition All people’s Congress (APC) party in parliament said that as the leader of the government has spoken for all Members of parliament, pointing out that Parliament is one unit. He said lack of offices has been a challenge for Members of Parliament who represent fifty thousand Sierra Leoneans something he referred to as unparliamentary. “Sometimes we believe a man’s best servant is himself” he mentioned, stressing that the current leadership of Parliament is moving faster. “The younger generation has a computer brain” he asserted while commending the speaker of Parliament and his Deputy. He promised his party’s support to the leadership of Parliament.

Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, the Deputy Speaker thanked Leone Rock, stating that “We are lucky as Speakers and Deputy to lead the champion to transform Parliament”, he narrated while referencing the donation made by the Chinese government.

He said that this is the first time Leone Rock is donating to the House of Legislature, emphasizing that one thousand bags of cement are not a small thing.

According to him, the donation will actualize taking members of Parliament from the canteen, noting canteen it is not good as an office for the people’s representatives to go to work without offices, adding Parliament has instituted new measures by issuing tags to visitors.

He furthered that Parliament has supported the company and that the donated bags of cement will be conveyed to the President because he is a member of Parliament.
