Indigenous livestock rears, butchers and cattle traders poised to increase meat production in Sierra Leone. Cattle rears and traders plays a key in the fight against hunger in a country and Sierra Leone is not exception hence the meat is necessary for protein.
The government of president Julius Maada Bio is currently working on five agendas among which they focus on is the Food production ‘Feed Salone’. On the day marking one year anniversary since he launched the feed Salone initiative, citizens gathered in Kailahun District to showcase the willingness of farmers across the country including cattle rears.

In an exclusive with their chairman Amadu Jalloh, he highlighted the importance of the World food day which was celebrated with the one-year anniversary of the feed Salone in Kailahun District, noting the day was to recognized the role of farmers and cattle rears into the fees Salone and to improving food self-sufficiency. “The feed Salone we are one of the major contributors and we support the government to succeed in their agenda” he pointed out,
Talking about benefits, Jalloh said if only the president support livestock farmers in the country, it will increase the production of healthy meat for the people of Sierra Leone and they will start to export meat something he said has an economic benefit not only for them but also the government, adding as cattle rears and traders, they play a big role to solve nutritional problem in the African country
Kono district, he said has been contributing greatly because the rear healthy animals and they are trying to increase production in that part of the country, saying they want to engage in a mechanized animal farming something he said will increase production so that they complement the effort of government
He called on all livestock farmers across the country to ensure peaceful coexistence between them and the crop farmers so that both parties will increase production and support the government agenda.
In his speech, the President acknowledged the importance of cows especially to increasing nutrition in the country. The presence of cattle rears, traders and butchers highlight the importance of unity. Before when people talk about farmers, they only think of those engaging in crop production.
