On Thursday, June 19, 2025, Sierra Leone pauses to honor the 20th anniversary of the passing of Honourable Edward John Kargbo, affectionately nicknamed “The Boss,” a statesman whose life and legacy continue to inspire the nation. His departure on June 19, 2005, marked the end of an extraordinary era, yet his influence endures.
Hon. Kargbo was among Sierra Leone’s most revered and longest-serving politicians under the All-People’s Congress (APC), holding office from 1968 to 1985. Renowned for his vision, compassion, and exceptional service, he earned widespread admiration for his dedication to public duty, community development, and empowering others.
Throughout his distinguished political career, Hon. Edward Kargbo exemplified integrity, humility, and purpose. As the longest-serving minister in APC history, he transcended politics, serving as a mentor to many, a voice for the voiceless, and a vital link between government and the people. His leadership reflected a profound understanding of the struggles and aspirations of ordinary Sierra Leoneans.
In his beloved hometown of Kamakwie and beyond, his name still inspires pride and gratitude. He devoted himself to supporting the youth, uplifting vulnerable families, and restoring dignity to the underserved. His acts providing educational aid to underprivileged children, assisting widows and struggling households, and guiding young leaders left an enduring legacy of kindness.
His vision for a united, just, and progressive Sierra Leone, now carried forward by his cherished brother Frank Kargbo, was built on compassion, opportunity, and peace. Friends, family, and APC colleagues hold fast to his values of service, truth, generosity, and patriotism.
To those he mentored, empowered, or inspired, he was a beacon of light. His warmth, infectious laughter, and approachable nature endeared him to many, marking him as a rare leader whose legacy is defined by people, not power.
This 20th memorial anniversary stirs memories of his absence, felt deeply by his children (Mariama, Dankay, and Ediatu), the Kargbo family, the APC, and the countless lives he touched. Yet, it is also a celebration, as many continue to follow the glow of his vision. For his dear family, relatives, and friends who stood by him, this day honors a legacy that shapes the future.
Two decades on, Hon. Edward Kargbo’s presence resonates in the hearts of those he served, the dreams he nurtured, and the Sierra Leone he loved so dearly.
Rest in Perfect Peace, Or’Eddie 20 Years Gone, Never Forgotten, Forever Honoured.
