$16,000 Heist Businessman Attacked and Robbed in Kenema

A man identified as Richard Breima has been charged with robbery with violence and assault causing actual bodily harm following an attack on a prominent businessman in Kenema, according to police reports, the incident occurred on Thursday, October 3, 2024, around 8:00 p.m. at Gava Forestry Quarters, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema District in Sierra Leone’s Eastern Province. The victim, Abdulai Darboh, President of the Scrap Metal Association, was reportedly robbed of $16,000 USD, 20,000 Leones, and a silver wristwatch.

Darboh, accompanied by his colleague Almamy Mansaray of No. 18 Nico Lane, Kissy, reported the robbery at the police station the following day. He stated that he was physically assaulted during the attack and sustained injuries, another suspect named Yassanch, alias Ground, was also mentioned and is believed to be identifiable if seen.

Following the complaint, police issued a medical request form, and Darboh was referred to Kenema Government Hospital for treatment, in addition to the cash and wristwatch, other stolen items included five jerry cans valued at Le 3,080, thirty-nine gas bottles worth Le 216,500, and 5,000 kilos of aluminum zinc valued at Le 195,700, the second charge against Breima concerns assault causing actual bodily harm under Section 47 of the offences against the person Act of 1861.

During initial court proceedings at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, presided over by Magistrate Sahr Kekura, prosecutor Alfred D. Williams, of 19 Farma Street, Wellington, testified that he recognized both the accused and the complainant. However, his testimony was paused due to the emotional nature of his statements, The case was adjourned to 29th May 2025 for further hearing.
