A 24-year-old unemployed youth, Prince Kamara of Kamanda Farm Section in Kenema, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by Principal Magistrate Hadiru Daboh of Magistrate Court No.1 in Kenema.

Kamara was convicted on three counts count one conspiracy contrary to law, count two: larceny contrary to Section 2 of the larceny Act of 1916, count three malicious damage contraries to section 51 of the malicious damage Act of 1861, according to Police Inspector Alphan Samuel Musa, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, Kamara conspired with unknown individuals to commit larceny at the Tilorma Sub-Station along Dama Road in Kenema. He stole 1.5 kilometres of aluminium conductor cables, valued at $5,343 USD, equivalent to NLe 128,028. The cables were the property of the Government of Sierra Leone and were in the custody of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA). He also maliciously damaged the same 1.5 km of conductor cables. Kamara pleaded guilty to all charges and begged for mercy; however, Magistrate Daboh imposed a custodial sentence of three years at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in Kenema, without the option of a fine.

In his judgment, Magistrate Daboh condemned Kamara’s actions, stating, as a young man, he did not steal from an individual but from the government of Sierra Leone, his conduct amounts to sabotage, especially at a time when the government is striving to improve electricity supply across the country, the magistrate further noted that while other suspects involved in the conspiracy were not brought before the court, proceedings would commence against them once they are apprehended. The actions of the convict reflect not only criminal intent but a disregard for national development, Magistrate Daboh concluded.
