The Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, has launched a renewed push to position Sierra Leone’s creative sector on the world stage, convening a high-level roundtable with some of the country’s biggest entertainers.
The meeting brought together prominent figures including Entertainment Ambassador Kao Denero, Colabo, Kracktwist, Artical Foyoh, and Mohamed B. Bayoh (Eco), who also serves as Entertainment Youth Coordinator.
Discussions focused on strategies to strengthen Sierra Leone’s music industry and secure international exposure for local talent. Minister Sannoh revealed that his ministry is in advanced talks with the Managing Director of Trace, one of the world’s leading music networks, to guarantee airplay for Sierra Leonean artists abroad.
This is not just about music; it’s about branding Sierra Leone to the world through the creativity of our young people, Minister Sannoh emphasized, describing the deal with Trace as a breakthrough opportunity for the entertainment sector.
Artists welcomed the initiative as both timely and historic. Kao Denero hailed it as “a long-awaited breakthrough for international recognition,” while Colabo called it history in the making, urging fellow musicians to elevate their craft in readiness for global opportunities.
The roundtable also highlighted upcoming youth-focused events, including the Mano River Union Youth Conekt 2025 in October and Sierra Leone’s first-ever Youth Festival in December. The Youth Festival will not only showcase music, arts, and culture but also raise funds to support young people struggling with drug addiction.
“Entertainment is a tool for healing, empowerment, and nation-building,” Minister Sannoh stressed, pledging continued collaboration with artists to elevate Sierra Leone’s entertainment industry to international standards.
With this bold partnership between government and entertainers, Sierra Leone is charting a path to claim its place on the global cultural map.
