Mary Conteh  30-year-old woman, of Elizabeth Street, Bassa Town, Waterloo, has been sentenced to three years (36 months) in prison after being found guilty of possessing harmful substances, October 22, 2025, the verdict was delivered by Magistrate Joseph Toby at the Kambia district magistrate’s court.

According to police reports, Conteh was arrested on Monday, October 13, 2025, by officers attached to the Operations Team of the Kambia Police Division. She was apprehended at the Kambia District Central Lorry Park while in possession of seven wrapped parcels containing the illegal substances.

Delivering his judgment on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Magistrate Toby emphasized the need for stronger enforcement of the law to curb the increasing circulation of harmful substances within communities, he noted that such acts not only endanger public health but also contribute to crime and social instability.

The case has drawn public attention as part of broader efforts by law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to crack down on the possession, sale, and distribution of harmful drugs and substances across Sierra Leone.

Local residents and community leaders have commended Magistrate Toby for his steadfast commitment to justice, describing him as a peace Ambassador” for his impartial rulings and his dedication to promoting law and order in the district.

The sentence is expected to serve as a strong deterrent to others engaged in similar unlawful activities, reinforcing the message that the judiciary remains resolute in upholding the law and ensuring community safety.
