
The Ministry of Sports, under the leadership of Hon. Augusta James-Teima, continued its proactive engagement in advancing Sierra Leone’s sporting agenda both locally and internationally throughout the week 6th–10th October 2025,
Minister of Sports Madam Augusta James-Teima held her routine weekly coordination meeting with Deputy Minister Kai Lawrence Mbayo. The session provided a comprehensive briefing on key administrative matters and ongoing activities within the Ministry, focusing on preparations for upcoming international sporting events and national sports development programs.
The Minister and her team visited the Ministry of Finance to follow up on government financial support for the Leone Stars, ensuring all necessary arrangements were in place ahead of Sierra Leone’s World Cup qualifying match against Burkina Faso. Later that day, Madam Minister and a delegation from the Ministry departed for Monrovia, Liberia, to witness the crucial encounter.
Minister Augusta James-Teima and her delegation attended the World Cup qualifying match between Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso at the Samuel K. Doe Stadium in Monrovia. Despite a spirited performance, the Leone Stars narrowly lost the match 1–0. The Minister commended the players and technical team for their resilience and professionalism, emphasizing the government’s continued commitment to supporting national sports excellence.
Following the match, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Jusu, along with the Director of Sports, Mr. Haroun Mustapha Korgi, and other Ministry officials, returned safely to Freetown. The Ministry reaffirmed its focus on preparing for the team’s next international engagement and addressing logistical needs for the upcoming fixture.
Minister Augusta James-Teima, accompanied by the Leone Stars delegation, arrived safely in Morocco ahead of Sierra Leone’s final 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Djibouti, scheduled for Sunday, 12th October 2025. The Minister expressed optimism that the team would deliver a strong performance and make the nation proud.
