The Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, National Water Resources Management Agency and the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) have engaged the leadership of the JM Mining company in Kenema.
The one-day session was held at the boardroom of the new SALWACO office in Kenema.
The thrust of the engagement among other things was to look into the dangers of mining operations with a view to solving the problem.
Present during the meeting was the Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, who also doubles as the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Young Generation Leader, Ing. Francis Alpha Kallon, Managing Director of SALWACO, Ing. George Lamin Vandi and the Director General of the NWRMA, Junisa Patrick Bangali Esq., among others.
After a strategic meeting with the JM Mining leadership, it was recommended that there should be a Site Visitation plus to redo the environmental impact assessment.
The Ministry, NWRMA and SALWACO made it clear that mining operations should not derail the efforts of SALWACO in providing water for people.
The leaderships in the water sector are to once again meet and submit comprehensive recommendations to JM Mining for onward execution and in the best interest of all and sundry.
