Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has called on citizens to embrace innovation, unity, and a sense of purpose in shaping a brighter future for the nation. He emphasized the need for Sierra Leoneans to take ownership of the country’s destiny, especially on behalf of future generations.
Speaking at the Salone Day National Symposium organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Education on Monday, April 28, 2025, in Freetown, Dr. Jalloh reflected on the meaning of independence. He reminded attendees that independence is not a fixed milestone but an ongoing journey that demands collective responsibility and effort.
“Independence for a country like Sierra Leone is a journey imperfect in many ways but necessary to deliver a future where the aspirations of past and unborn generations converge around the hope of a more prosperous tomorrow,” he declared. He urged citizens to see themselves as active custodians of the nation’s legacy and progress.
Highlighting the crucial role of innovation in governance and national development, the Vice President challenged Sierra Leoneans to recommit themselves to the ideals of self-determination and unity. “Celebrating independence is a constant reminder of the tasks we inherited, the challenges we face, and those that lie ahead,” he remarked.
Dr. Jalloh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting national cohesion, stating, We will continue to innovate governance structures and institutions to forge a national identity grounded in the spirit of one country, one people, and one destiny.
