US Ambassador Visits Kambia District

Under favorable weather conditions, the Kambia Police Division, led by Chief Superintendent of Police Bob Musa Nazlic Mansaray, implemented robust security measures to ensure the safe and smooth passage of the US Ambassador’s convoy through the township.

Bryan David Hunt, the US Ambassador to Sierra Leone and the country’s highest-ranking US representative, visited Kambia District to listen to pressing local issues and explore areas where the US government could offer support. The visit also aimed to promote a message of peace, unity, and community collaboration.

During his visit, the Ambassador met with Kambia District Council Chairman Mohamed Abdul Mansarico Mansaray, who outlined his administrative leadership and assured that the district remains relatively peaceful and stable.

The Ambassador also engaged with the Kambia District Civil Society Movement, where Chairperson Aminata provided reports on civil society activities and highlighted administrative challenges faced in executing their work across the district.

Further, he visited the Kambia District Resource Center, meeting with APC District Chairman Amadu Santigie Bangura (Tham Sella) and executive members. They discussed party-related concerns from the 2023 general elections, with the APC leadership confirming their commitment to peace and cordial relationships with other political parties in the district.

The SLPP District Headquarters was also on the Ambassador’s itinerary. He met with SLPP District Chairman Abraham Alimamy Kamara (Achebe) and executive members, who reaffirmed their dedication to law, order, and open communication with the US Embassy regarding district affairs.

A highlight of the visit was the meeting with Paramount Chief Bia Farama Tass Ngbnak Bubu IV of Magbema Chiefdom, who also serves as Kambia District MP. The Chief welcomed the Ambassador with the traditional kola nut ceremony a gesture of respect and provided updates on security, low crime rates, healthcare, education, infrastructure, marketplaces, and cross-border trade with neighboring Guinea.

In conclusion, Ambassador Hunt thanked the people of Kambia District for their warm welcome and assured them that their concerns would be communicated to the US government through the Embassy in Freetown.

The visit ended peacefully, with the local police providing an escort to the African Hotel, where the Ambassador stayed overnight. The following day, he is scheduled to participate in a Radio Kolenten 90.7 interview and officiate the swearing-in ceremony of newly trained Peace Corps volunteers before returning to Freetown.
