May 2, 2025, Ibrahim Kamara, 33, a motorbike rider, and Abdul Bangura, 28, unemployed, were sentenced to two years and six months imprisonment by Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1. The duo faced three charges: conspiracy to commit a felony, robbery with violence, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
The incident occurred on December 3, 2024, at Will Street, Freetown. Prosecutors alleged that Kamara and Bangura conspired to rob Aminata Kallon Kamara of 120 packets of fried plantain and Le 600 in cash, totaling Le 1,000 in value, using personal violence. They also assaulted her, causing bodily harm. No plea was taken when the charges were read.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ibrahim S. Mansaray led the prosecution, presenting three witnesses. The complainant, Aminata, testified that the accused stole her money and fled. A factual witness confirmed seeing Bangura at the scene, holding Aminata’s phone. Kamara admitted to being present, claiming he recovered the phone from Bangura and returned it.
Magistrate Kekura ruled that the prosecution proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, citing corroborated evidence. Despite Kamara’s claim of innocence, witness testimonies confirmed his involvement. The accused, unrepresented, did not cross-examine witnesses and relied on police statements.
Kamara pleaded for mercy, noting his clean record. Magistrate Kekura sentenced both to two years and six months at the Male Correctional Facility or a fine of Le 3,000. The case was adjourned for compliance on May 5, 2025.
