In a press release dated 23rd January 2024, the Ministry of Transport and Aviation revealed that, effective Sunday 28th January 2024, no vehicles and push carts (omorlankay) will be allowed to park or access Sani Abacha Street. Exception is given to SLPTA licensed operators.
The Transport Ministry however noted that loading and off-loading will only be permissible during the hours of 10pm to 5am.
“The Ministry of Transport and Aviation has The general public is hereby informed that, effective midnight Sunday 28th January 2024, Sani Abacha Street will be a no parking street or no access for any vehicle or push cart (omorlankay) including public transport vehicles (except for SLPTA licensed operators) during the hours of 6am to 10pm.
Loading and off-loading will only be permissible during the hours of 10pm to 5am,” the release stated.
The Ministry warned that defaulters will be towed at their own cost.
Even though the ministry did not give actual reason for the decision, it may not unrelated to the many reported cases of incidents where trailers carrying heavily loaded containers have capsized, killing and injuring many people.
