A 39-year-old trader, Alhaji Mustapha Sesay, of No. 1 Dama Road, Kenema City, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by Her Worship Magistrate Wilbri Hamida M. John of the Magistrate Court No. 2 in Kenema for unlawful possession of prohibited drugs (Kush).
Sesay was charged with possession and use of prohibited drugs, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drugs Control Act No. 10 of 2008.
According to court records, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Sesay was arrested at his residence after officers of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) Eastern Region discovered 60 grams of Kush in his possession. Following the arrest, the suspected substance was sent to the government toxicologist for examination and analysis, which confirmed it to be the dangerous synthetic drug known locally as Kush.
After reviewing the evidence, Magistrate John convicted Sesay and sentenced him to five years imprisonment at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Kenema. No plea was taken during the proceedings.
In a separate but related case, Lansana Sheriff, a 37-year-old farmer of Cemetery Lane, Kenema City, was also convicted of unlawful possession of prohibited drugs by His Worship Magistrate Hadiru Daboh of Magistrate Court No. 1 in Kenema.
According to police reports, on Tuesday, October 30, 2025, officers attached to the Kenema Police Division, led by PC 17432 Musa J.A., arrested Sheriff at Showfield, Kenema, after he was found in possession of 107 wraps (equivalent to 60 grams) of Kush. The suspect and the exhibits were later handed over to TOCU for further investigation.
Magistrate Daboh subsequently sentenced Sheriff to four years imprisonment at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Kenema, Both matters were prosecuted by Police Inspector Aiah Mafinda Teh and ASP Sulaiman Kamara Esq., attached to the Legal and Justice Support Department at the Kenema Police Station.
