Top ruling lawmaker calls for speedy conclusion of suspended clerk's

Hon. Bashiru Silikie who doubles as the deputy leader of government business has urged for a conclusion to the case of Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally, the suspended clerk of parliament.

He called on the Anti-Corruption Commission and other investigators to fast-track their investigations regarding Hon. Tarawally, saying much needs to be done regarding the running of the administration of parliament. He said the investigators should be at the concluding part of their investigations. “I believe those who are responsible for the investigation of Honorable Paran Umar Tarawally should be wrapping up their investigations for us to have him here in this well to help his colleagues delivered on the aspiration upon which they came to parliament in 2012,” Hon. Bashiru said.

He revealed that even before the 2018 election, they wanted Honorable Paran Umar Tarawally to be the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally was suspended after an allegation involving the illegal employment of his wife to work at Parliament of Sierra Leone for which she received salary and never went to work. After the intervention of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), wife of Hon. Tarawally paid all the money she received as salary for seven months following by suspension of her husband.

It is reported that the absence of the suspended clerk has resulted in some challenges in the administration of parliament.
