Three Police Officers Dismissed Over Alleged Armed Robbery in Rokel

By Aminata Abu Bakarr Kamara

In a decisive move to uphold discipline and integrity within the Sierra Leone Police Force, Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu has dismissed three officers following their alleged involvement in an armed robbery in Rokel, Western Area Rural District.

Police sources indicate that the officers allegedly used firearms and other dangerous weapons to forcibly seize valuables from residents. The incident prompted an immediate internal investigation by the Complaints, Discipline, and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID).

The CDIID reportedly confirmed the officers’ participation, deeming it gross misconduct and a breach of professional ethics. The department recommended their immediate dismissal and referral for further legal action.

The Sierra Leone Police Executive Management Board endorsed the recommendation, facilitating both the officers’ removal from the force and their prosecution.

In a statement, police authorities emphasized that the action reinforces the force’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and criminality within its ranks.

“Any officer found undermining the values of the force and betraying public trust will face swift and decisive action,” a senior police spokesperson said.

The case has now been handed over to the courts, with the public urged to maintain confidence in the police’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the rule of law.
