By Dadson A. Musa
He has been a revelation in Sierra Leone football and has been quick to make his mark in the football scene. He might have had his two journeys to Europe which ended in quick returns to the surprise of many in the country. There were rumours of him wanting to go suicidal and we were told that government played a huge part in consoling him. Whatever was behind those early returns will be revealed to us later. But this Musa Tombo that I have observed on the field of play. He is tall and has physical fitness and athletic which is his asset. His reception and control of the ball is wonderful. He does not dribble too much but rather makes purposeful and timely passes. He is quick and clever with the ball and knows how to hold on to the ball. He has an eye for goal-scoring. He is very business-like once he gets involved with play. His style reminds me of George Opong Weah, former president of Liberia in his playing days. Musa Tombo is fearless once he gets the ball and one of the coaches of Bo rangers told me that it is the attacker who intimidates defenders with his pace and drive for goal. He was the highest goal-scorer last premier league season and has therefore earned another call -up from a former club, Bo Rangers F. C. who are in need of a goal -scoring hero heading into their continental competition. Rejoining John Keister as the current coach of Bo Rangers is a perfect reunion as it was under this same coach that he was thrown into the limelight then at East End Lions F. C.
He plays for a foot club that is high spending and has facilities that are motivating to players and coaching staff. My fear is the over reliance on him to do all the goal scoring. Bo Rangers FC is playing well at the moment but they are not scoring too many goals and they hardly concede themselves. They should do all they could to create more scorers as a team thrives when they fire from all cylinders. Even their defenders must be seen to be scoring as they should try to take the keen attention off Musa Tombo going into this year’s African Champion’s League. Bo Rangers F. C. have gone twice to the competition in quick succession but have failed to make it past the preliminary stage on both occasions. Then, Musa Tombo was absent, so they are betting heavily on him to make the magic work this time. For now, he seems to be at his peak again as he proved at Ports Authority. It is a career-defining moment for him as Bo Rangers is going to play against elite teams on the African continent starting this August, but in as much as he plays with the team, the team should also play around him as a key player and a goal-getter. He is still very young and has a long way to go so only time will tell how far he will go at the international stage.
