Established in 2020, Mama Wurie Islamic Primary and Secondary School proudly stands as a beacon of educational excellence, seamlessly integrating English and Arabic/Islamic knowledge from Nursery to secondary levels. Through concerted collaborative efforts, the institution has not only set an exemplary standard for education but has also become a catalyst for inspiring and empowering generations of learners. By effectively bridging existing gaps in education, the school actively contributes to nurturing a brighter future for the youth of Sierra Leone. This commitment to excellence is further underscored by the remarkable achievement of the school’s first BECE cohort examination, where it achieved a 100% pass rate. Notably, the students attained exceptional marks, with achievements ranging from 8 as the highest to 12 as the lowest. This outstanding accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the school’s exceptional teachers.
Located along Cocker Drive by Regent Road, Lumley at the heart of the Western Area of Freetown, Mama-Wurie Islamic Primary, Junior & Senior Secondary School recently hosted its Second internal School activities, featuring the exhilarating spelling bee competition as its highlight. Accompanying this showcase were poetry recitals, Quranic recitations, dramas, and Nasheed performances, all showcasing the diverse talents of the students. The event commenced with a captivating Quranic recitation by 11-year-old Abdul Basit Jalloh, followed by a warm welcome from SSS-1 student, Princess Renata Makisi. Mr. Mohamed Barrie, the school’s Head Master, and Dr. Ramadan Jalloh, the Director, also shared opening statements, setting the tone for a day filled with celebration and learning.
Esteemed guests, including the founder and proprietor, Alhaji Bobo Bah, graced the event, underlining their dedication to education and the growth of the students. Princess Renata, a student at Mama Wurie Islamic School, emphasized the pivotal role of parental support in children’s education, advocating for investment not just in personal advancement but also in the collective progress of the nation. Renata underscored the importance of equipping students with the skills needed for success in a rapidly evolving world, emphasizing the significance of parental commitment and providing opportunities for students to contribute meaningfully to society.
Principal Mohamed Barrie reiterated the school’s dedication to holistic education, emphasizing the significance of events such as the spelling bee and Arabic competitions in enhancing language proficiency. Dr. Ramadan Jalloh further stressed the importance of integrating English and Arabic education, aligning with the institution’s goal of offering a well-rounded learning experience. Serving as the moderator of the event, Alhaji Umaru Jalloh, the School’s Secretary, introduced the three judges, Mrs. Zainab Jalloh, Mr. Mohamed Alie Bah, and Mr. Ibrahim Koroma, along with the pronouncers, Mr. Komba Moiwa, Mr. Lnsana Mansaray, and Mr. Idrisa Bangura, respectively.
In the exhilarating Spelling Bee Contest, remarkable displays of talent and intellect were witnessed. Among the secondary school participants, Sulaiman Kamara secured the 3rd position, followed by Alpha Umar Bah in 2nd place. Israel Allen emerged as the ultimate champion from SSS1, showcasing not only his linguistic prowess but also his resilience in the face of daunting challenges. The championship reached a level of intensity where the Pronouncer found himself challenged by the contestants’ proficiency, pushing the competition to new heights. As the championship escalated, with both Allen and Bah displaying exceptional command of language, it came down to a thrilling showdown where they were asked to throw sophisticated vocabulary at each other. In this intense linguistic battle, Israel Allen’s unwavering determination and quick thinking ultimately led to his victory over Alpha Umar Bah, solidifying his status as the spelling bee champion.
In the Junior Secondary School category, Mohamed Cire Jalloh clinched the 1st position for the second time, demonstrating remarkable skill and determination. Aisha Aduke Mustapha secured the 2nd position, with Halima Dramy claiming the 3rd position. In the primary stream, Kabu Saccoh, Alhaji Bobo Bah, and Mamadu Jang Jalloh distinguished themselves, claiming the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions respectively, showcasing the depth of talent among the youngest learners.
Each of these winners exemplifies not only academic excellence but also the embodiment of Islamic values and norms instilled within the ethos of Mama Wurie Islamic Primary and Secondary School. Their perseverance and commitment to excellence resonate deeply with the teachings of Islam, emphasizing the importance of diligence, integrity, and continuous improvement in all aspects of life.
