The Honourable Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has described teachers as the architects of the nation’s future, emphasizing their vital role in shaping minds, nurturing patriotism, and building the foundation for national development.

Speaking on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the University of Makeni during the Presidential National Best Teacher Award Ceremony, Vice President Jalloh paid glowing tribute to teachers across the country, recognizing them as the true nation builders whose dedication and sacrifice continue to shape Sierra Leone’s progress.

Doctors, engineers, farmers, security personnel, business people, and leaders we were all shaped by teachers, he said. They are not just instructors of knowledge; they are nation builders who instil hope, discipline, and character in our children.

Dr. Jalloh reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to education as a transformative pathway for sustainable development and democratic stability.

“Our commitment to education is not only unmatched, it is unshakeable, he declared. Education has been a core belief of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) since its founding in 1951. We are committed to spending our last cent to ensure that every child, rich or poor, has the opportunity to go to school and secure a decent future.

Highlighting government efforts to improve the education sector, the Vice President pointed to expanded access to schooling, continuous teacher training and capacity building, provision of learning and teaching materials, and improved school infrastructure across the country.

He stressed that effective learning begins with teachers, noting that President Julius Maada Bio’s establishment of the Presidential National Best Teacher Award symbolizes the government’s recognition of teachers’ invaluable contribution to society.

We have expanded access to education, we continue to train and equip teachers, we provide learning and teaching materials, and we are improving school infrastructure. But learning can only take place when you have teachers, he noted. That is why President Bio initiated this award to honour your value and contribution to national development.

In conclusion, Vice President Jalloh saluted all teachers for their unwavering service to the nation and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to continue prioritizing education.

Long live our teachers, long live Sierra Leone, and long live our commitment to education. When you say education, you say SLPP, he declared, drawing loud applause from the audience.
