The Sierra Leone Embassy in Dakar Senegal, overseeing Mauritania, Morocco on Friday 24th April, 2020 donated assorted food items and cash to Sierra Leoneans living in those countries.
The assorted food items were donated to Sierra Leoneans living in Senegal whilst the cash donation was made to Sierra Leonean students in Rabat, Morocco.
Making the donation to the Sierra Leone Union in Dakar, the Ambassador HE Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma said the donation was as a result of concern of the President Dr. Julius Maada Bio to reach out to all Sierra Leoneans home and abroad during this difficult period.
Ambassador Koroma appreciated the Union in Senegal for their sensitization on COVID-19 to Sierra Leoneans. He called on them to continue to respect the health regulations put in place by the Government of Senegal.
Amb. Koroma reminded the union leaders that back home the pandemic is getting serious which means all their prayers are for the Government and people of Sierra Leone to enable them overcome the pandemic.
The ambassador lauded the efforts of the Government of Sierra Leone in the fight against the Coronavirus and called on well meaning Sierra Leoneans to unite in this fight for the love of people and country.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Sierra Leoneans in Senegal, Momodu Niang prayed for the Ambassador and staff and also offered special prayers for His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for reaching out to citizens during a difficult COVID-19 period. The Union President assured the Ambassador and staff of their continued public education to their compatriots on Corona prevention and protection.
Also, Madam Zainab Kande, the Honorary Consul in Rabat- Morocco in consultation with Amb. Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma made a cash donation of €110 each to 15 Sierra Leoneans studying in various institutions of higher learning in Morocco.
With joy receiving their envelopes, the students expressed their appreciation to government for thinking about them during such difficult period. They reassured government that they will continue to be good citizens during their course of studies and would return to contribute to nation building.
Similar initiative was also adopted in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania led by the Consul General- Jiyed Maufouz who has been in touch with the Sierra Leonean community.
Embassy Staff present during the donation in Senegal were the Head of Chancery, Saidu Timbo , the Financial Attache’,Mariatu Finoh, and Abigail Conteh, the Third Secretary.
