In the picture above, I was standing alongside Mr. Boima Moriba, a father figure and one of the longest serving teachers of our beloved St. Augustine in Lungi. To know that this man that taught thousands of us ages ago is still going strong is so much pleasurable. May the Almighty continue to keep him safe and sound for us, Amen. In the same picture, erstwhile Sec. Gen of the St. Augustine Old Students (SAOSA), Philip AO George was standing next to Mr. Moriba. Philip was my senior at Fourah Bay College. He was already in his Hons 1 class when I entered Year 1. The rest is history, but it is also virtuous that among many other positives, he is giving back to our school by doing lots of mentorships etc. If you are in Lungi, you should likely know Philip George because he is into a whole lot (from academic to social activities etc.). The young pupil in uniform is Victoria Y. Conteh, who happened to be the crowned best debater of the day. Our school is known for many positives and public speaking is one of such.
Like I had earlier posted, I was in my home town of Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom Lungi to Chair an interactive debate at our School, St. Augustine. As National Secretary General of the St. Augustine Old Students, I had to play a double role. I spoke about the commitment of our executive to continue to improve standards whiles giving support to the school.
The kids like always did not disappoint. St. Augustine is known to produce brilliant and exceptional minds and so, little surprises… Thanks to GEED Foundation for funding and sponsoring the sessions including our School Stage. Glad that Mr. Moriba is still leading things and strongly too and thanks to erstwhile Sec. Gen. of SAOSA, Philip AO George for the tireless coordination. Several other schools were around to witness and contribute and so in the end, all participants were winners because I am convinced that they’re all now better positioned to improve as they get along and thanks to the judges and the pupils.
I ended with the hashtags below;
#QualityEducation
#Debates
In the end, it is very essential to continue to create to create safer spaces for our young people. We have to make them know and believe that the future is very bright and that with utmost seriousness and unhindered dedication, all of them would also have the opportunities to make the much-needed societal changes.
