Accessing basic services especially on the island of Bonthe in Sierra Leone is a very huge challenge. And health care, which is a very crucial service poses risks in a place like Bonthe, so on the one -year – memorial service of the late uncle of the current speaker of parliament decided to put up a clinic to cushion the health care needs of the people of Bonthe island, so on the 26th December 2025 , very close to the catholic church compound on the island Rt. Hon Segepoh Solomon Thomas did a ground- breaking event by turning the sod for the construction of a clinic. Graced by the catholic bishop of the south- east, Most Rev. Dr. Charles A. M. Campbell offered prayers and spiritual support for the construction, the late Rev. Fr. Henry Williams ( speaker’s uncle) was a senior clergy of the catholic church in Sierra Leone and this is a befitting memorial for him, reading from the scripture the bishop quoted that if
the lord does not build the builder labours in vain.
I’m doing this because during the war years when we were on this island, accessing health care posed a serious challenge for all of us although we managed what we had, this is why I have decided to construct this clinic in addition to the government hospital, scriptures were read by the Rev fathers present and the bishop of the south, Most Rev Dr. Charles A. M. Campbell blessed the gesture prayed for successful completion.”
An observer remarked that. it is going to be of immense benefit especially to women and children who are not going to cross over to the main land to access health services.
