the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, launched a transformative program to modernize its garment factory at Kingtom Police Barracks and key facilities. This initiative, part of a broader vision under Inspector General Mr. William Fayia Sellu to shift toward a service-oriented force, began with a detailed survey by a joint team of senior officers and UNDP experts to assess conditions, pinpoint gaps, and chart a path to efficiency.
Led by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Esther Mary Kaintor-Dukuray, the team scrutinized the factory’s equipment and infrastructure to elevate operational standards. Commissioner Ishmael Keita highlighted the initiative’s role in the SLP’s strategic overhaul, praising the factory’s skilled staff for their potential to meet modern demands. A concept note for the factory’s transformation awaits review by the Executive Management Board.
UNDP’s Madam Ilemobola Ademola-Adelehin, alongside her team, consulted with factory manager ACP Alhaji K. Bangura, addressing current capabilities and challenges, the delegation also inspected Wilberforce and Aberdeen Police Stations, evaluating existing and newly constructed facilities as pilot projects for the reform agenda, this effort underscores IGP Sellu’s commitment to upgrading police infrastructure nationwide, boosting public trust through enhanced service delivery. As Sierra Leone embraces this moment the modernization signals a bold step toward a revitalized police force.
