The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) delegation, led by the director of operations, AIG Dr. John Martin Senesie, has concluded a highly successful five-day Strategic working Session with the Liberia National police (LNP), the engagement, held from Monday, 1st December to Friday, 5th December 2025, was part of ongoing efforts to operationalize the bilateral security communiqué signed by the inspectors general of both countries.

The session brought together senior law enforcement officials to develop a comprehensive roadmap for strengthening cross-border security cooperation, discussions focused on key thematic areas, including the prevention of cross-border crime, enhanced intelligence sharing, cybersecurity, human trafficking, and combating transnational organized crime, delegates also advanced plans for the establishment of the Mano River Union police chiefs committee (MRUPCC), a major step toward institutionalizing security collaboration in the region.

Significant progress was recorded on a draft implementation document that will guide operational cooperation between the two police forces. This roadmap is expected to reinforce collective security within the Mano River Union (MRU) Basin and deepen ties between the SLP and LNP.

Beyond the technical engagements, the SLP delegation paid several high-level courtesy visits to state institutions and diplomatic partners in Liberia, including His Excellency Ambassador Eddie Sidikie Massally, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Liberia; the Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Kpan Koung; and the Mayor of Monrovia, his Lordship John-Charuk Saah Siafa.

During the visit to the Monrovia City Corporation, Mayor Siafa hosted the visiting Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, USA, His Lordship Ras J. Baraka. Both mayors commended the growing security partnership and acknowledged the deep cultural and historical ties between Sierra Leone and Liberia.

The SLP delegation also met with several senior stakeholders who reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Sierra Leone, they stressed the importance of coordinated security efforts in promoting peace, stability, and professional policing across the MRU region, the Liberian Police leadership described the collaboration as a natural extension of the shared heritage and aspirations between the two nations.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, AIG Dr. Senesie emphasized the need for sustained cooperation to address shared security challenges, he noted that the outcomes of the working session would significantly contribute to regional peacebuilding, crime prevention, and improved law enforcement coordination.

The successful conclusion of the strategic working Session marks a renewed chapter in the longstanding partnership between the Sierra Leone police and the Liberia National police, Both institutions have pledged to fast-track the implementation of the agreed roadmap in the coming months.
