Philip Rogers, a civil society activist has been elected as the Bo District Chairperson for the Sierra Leone Alcohol Policy Alliance (SLAPA). Philip Rogers is a member of a civil society group for the mano river union based in Bo. His victory was a landslide one depicting his popularity in the civil society landscape.
“I am very grateful to those who have shown their belief in me by voting overwhelmingly and I promise not to disappoint,” he told them He told the gathering that he is not going to work alone but as a team for the good of the organization. SLAPA which is the Sierra Leone Policy Alliance against Alcohol has been campaigning and sensitizing especially to youths not to indulge in alcohol intake and abuse. The alliance’ s work has seen the printing of banners, flyers and media campaign to ensure that Sierra Leone is either alcohol – free or there is a drastic reduction in the sale and use of alcohol. He expresses gratitude to those who believed in him and emphasizes the importance of teamwork and togetherness in his new role. Rogers is now leading SLAPA’s efforts in Bo District. He stresses the importance of collaboration and unity in achieving SLAPA’s goals. Rogers is committed to working with his team to promote responsible alcohol policies and practices in Sierra Leone.
