Disability remains a major challenge in Sierra Leone, particularly in a nation where poverty continues to affect large segments of the population. Any effort to improve the lives of persons with disabilities is therefore a significant and commendable contribution to national development.

One such effort has been led by Mobility Sierra Leone, an organization dedicated to empowering people living with disabilities through mobility support and advocacy. This year, the organization’s founder, Mr. Lamin Mansaray, was inducted into the Mobility Worldwide Hall of Fame during the annual Mobility Worldwide Disability Conference held in Wichita, United States of America.

Mr. Mansaray received the prestigious honor in recognition of his “years of dedicated service to persons with disabilities.” The 2025 conference, which began on October 4, brought together global experts and advocates to celebrate innovation and explore technological advancements aimed at improving the lives of people with disabilities worldwide.

In his remarks, Mr. Mansaray expressed deep gratitude to Mobility Worldwide for the recognition and their continued support to Sierra Leone. He announced that he had successfully secured automated wheelchairs to be imported into the country an initiative that will significantly enhance mobility and independence for many Sierra Leoneans living with disabilities.

“I have committed myself to changing the narrative for persons with disabilities in my country, Sierra Leone, and I will not relent,” he stated passionately.

For more than 15 years, Mr. Mansaray has been at the forefront of disability advocacy and support, often overcoming financial and logistical challenges to ensure that people with disabilities have access to basic tools for dignity and inclusion.

His induction into the Mobility Worldwide Hall of Fame not only recognizes his personal achievements but also shines a global spotlight on Sierra Leone’s growing movement for disability rights and empowerment.
